Happy Fourth of July!ย What are some of your family’s favorite Independence Day traditions? Do you attend town parades, host big BBQ’s, light fireworks? I always remember my dad making homemade ice cream to mark the holiday – a tradition that I continue to this day. The Fourth of July is a great time to get together with loved ones and celebrate! But a great celebration requires delicious food and treats. Thus, I’m sharing a couple of patriotic and fun Fourth of July fruits, that are a big hit in my household! And here’s the best part…they only require a few ingredients, and are ready to go in just a few minutes!
So, set down those sparklers and make a quick trip to the kitchen. Your guests will be grateful!
Red, White & Blueberries
These little bite-sized morsels are the perfect Fourth of July treat! They proudly display our country’s colors, they have a touch of sparkle, and they’re delicious too! I mean, who doesn’t love eating food on a stick? It’s also a great recipe for the kiddos to make on their own (or with little supervision)!
Ingredients:
- Blueberries
- White Chocolate Chips (you could also try a Greek Vanilla Yogurt instead)
- Red Sprinkles
- Toothpicks, for skewering
Instructions:
- Rinse and dry the blueberries. Skewer three blueberries per each toothpick and set aside.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, add the white chocolate chips and microwave in 30-second increments. Stir with a rubber spatula after each round in the microwave. Continue until all of the white chocolate chips are melted and the mixture is nice and smooth.
- Line a cookie sheet with wax paper. Pour some red sprinkles into a small bowl.
- One at a time, dip each blueberry skewer into the white chocolate, making sure to only dip the bottom two blueberries, leaving the third and final blueberry in its original state (blue).
- Shake (or tap) off any excess white chocolate and promptly dunk the bottom blueberry into the red sprinkles. You want to leave the middle blueberry white.
- Transfer to the wax paper-lined cookie sheet. Continue this process until all of the blueberry skewers have been utilized.
- Pop the cookie sheet into the refrigerator for a few minutes, for the white chocolate to harden.
- Remove from the refrigerator and transfer to a serving dish. Set them out for your guests and watch them disappear.
Patriotic Strawberries
It’s hard to go wrong with chocolate-covered strawberries, am I right? And they are so quick and easy to make! Instead of the standard milk chocolate coating, switch it up with some white chocolate, to create these patriotic Fourth of July berries!
Ingredients:
- Strawberries (I prefer to use Organic Strawberries)
- White Chocolate Chips (you could also try a Greek Vanilla Yogurt instead)
- Blue Sprinkles
Instructions:
- Rinse and dry the strawberries.
Pour some blue sprinkles into a small bowl.
- One at a time (and while holding the green stems), dip each strawberry into the white chocolate, making sure to only dunk the bottom two-thirds – leaving the top third of the strawberry red.
- Shake off any excess white chocolate and promptly dunk the bottom third of the strawberry into the blue sprinkles. You want to leave the middle section white.
- Transfer to the wax paper-lined cookie sheet. Continue this process until all of the strawberries have been utilized.
- Pop the cookie sheet into the refrigerator for a few minutes, to allow the white chocolate to harden.
- Remove from the refrigerator and serve!
I love how quick and simple these fun Fourth of July fruits are to make, and the fact that my daughter absolutely loves helping out (granted she takes lots of taste tests from the white chocolate bowl). ๐ You can even make both of these patriotic, fruity treats at the same time – just remember which color of sprinkles go on which fruit.
No matter what your traditions are, or how you plan to celebrate this year, enjoy the day with your friends and family. Relax. Indulge. Play. Happy Independence Day!
