HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Since it’s a holiday, I figured it might be fun to share a little family photo album from our Halloweens past!
Our little nugget (or should I say ogre) was just two months old when we celebrated her first Halloween. Her tiny, knitted Shrek costume (that I found on Etsy) was absolutely adorable! Needless to say, our first Halloween as a family was pretty low-key. We stayed home and handed out candy to all of the neighborhood kids. π
Our next Halloween was much more eventful. There was the town parade and trick-or-treat street, the costume parade at our daughter’s school, and then an evening of trick-or-treating on Halloween night. Since all of these events ended up on different days, I was worried that if our little nugget only had one Halloween costume, that we would inevitably spill something on it, and wouldn’t have enough time to clean it before the next event. Thus, I chose two different costumes! Some might say we ended up with two costumes solely because toddler Halloween costumes are just too darn cute, and I couldn’t handle only picking one. π
Her two costumes that year were an owl and a pig. I ended up dressing up as a duck (to complement her pig costume) and my husband went as an ever-popular Minion (he was a big hit at the Halloween parade)!
As for the trick-or-treat street…our little nugget was way more interested in running around, than waiting in line to snag some pieces of candy (which was totally fine with us). π She did enjoy a few sweets, of course.
As for trick-or-treating on Halloween night…I think we made it to just a handful of our neighbors houses that year. And then our little owl spent some time doling out candy, before she headed off to bed.
Last year, we had the same Halloween events…and once again they were all on different days. So, what was I to do except purchase another two toddler Halloween costumes. This time, however, our little nugget told us exactly what she wanted to be for Halloween…a superhero and a butterfly. Done and done!
Not only did she decide on her own Halloween costumes, but she also informed me that I needed to dress up as Batman. I aim to please. π My husband decided to be a dragon. He just can’t get enough of the zip-up costumes from Target! π
We made it to several more houses when we were out trick-or-treating, and the candy was a way bigger draw the second time around. In fact, she still calls candy (in general) trick-or-treaties. π
And then…there’s the pumpkins! My husband and I have always carved at least one pumpkin every Halloween. While I tend to stick to the simple go-to pumpkin designs (or at least some sort of stencil), my better half is much more creative!
When our daughter was one, we let her decorate her very first pumpkin…with paint! She had a great time!
Last year, after making our pumpkin selections at our favorite pumpkin patch, we sat down as a family to clean and carve our pumpkins. It took just one handful of pumpkin guts for our daughter to decide that cleaning the pumpkins wasn’t her cup of tea. π She hated it. But when I told her that we could make a Cookie Monster pumpkin, she was more than happy to assist with the spray painting, carving…and the cookies! The girl knows her priorities.
And there you have it…a little glimpse at our Halloweens past. And today…we’re busy making even more Halloween memories to add to our family photo album!
