“There was an old lady who started to hop. She jumped up and down and just wouldn’t stop. As she skipped down the trail on a day that was sunny, guess who she met — the Easter Bunny!”
– There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick!
Story time in our house, the past two weeks, has been full of fluffy white bunnies, colorful eggs, jellybeans, baskets, and baby chicks. Easter must be right around the corner. π We love reading books about different holidays…the stories provide a wonderful opportunity for us to learn about (and experience) all of the different ways that people love to celebrate!
How do you like to celebrate Easter with your family? My husband and I have always enjoyed getting creative with our Easter egg dying and decorations…and now that our little nugget is old enough, we love watching her excitement and determination as she hunts for Easter eggs! And let’s not forget the fun-filled Easter baskets!
When I look back on my childhood Easter celebrations, I fondly remember racing my older brother around the house, in our quest to find all of the Easter eggs (that we had lovingly dyed, of course) that our mom had expertly hidden. We were always treated to a candy-filled Easter basket, complete with a chocolate bunny. And our mom always made sure to throw in a mixed-bag of jellybeans…knowing full well that she would become the lucky owner of all of the black jellybeans, because we hated the taste of black licorice, and it was her favorite flavor. Sneaky, sneaky. π There were a few years of uncomfortable frilly pink Easter dresses (and hats too)…but for the most part, our Easter celebrations were always about family fun and delicious food!
I was delighted to find some wonderful Easter stories, that highlighted some of my favorite childhood Easter traditions, that I could share with our little nugget. Keep reading to discover our favorite Easter books for this year!
