Autumn…the beautiful time of year when the trees dazzle us with brilliant orange, red, and golden hues. I will never tire of the changing colors. This year, we decided to celebrate the coming of the new season by bringing the magic of the fall trees inside, with these fun Fall Tree Crafts for Kids!
Our little nugget had so much fun making these colorful fall decorations. Our favorite creation was most definitely the coffee filter trees, but she also thoroughly enjoyed being able to complete the ABC apple tree and Do-A-Dot tree all by herself!
Coffee Filter Fall Trees
I’ve been dying to make these coffee filter fall trees, ever since I came across them on the @playdough2plato Instagram page last year. They are beautiful and vibrant, and they capture all of those fantastic fall colors! Besides…we simply love dripping our liquid watercolors onto paper towels and coffee filters.
If you would like to create your very own coffee filter fall trees (and we highly recommend it), you will need the following supplies: coffee filters, liquid watercolors (red, orange, yellow), pipettes or eye-droppers, brown construction paper, Elmer’s glue, and wax paper (optional).
Start by laying a sheet of wax paper onto a table or flat surface. The wax paper tends to catch all of the excess liquid watercolors, making clean-up a breeze. Place coffee filters flat on top of the wax paper. Drip the fall-colored watercolors from the pipettes onto the coffee filters, in any design you choose. Repeat this process for each additional tree that you would like to create. Once you are satisfied with your coffee filter creations, set them aside to dry completely.
While the coffee filters are drying, grab the brown construction paper and cut one tree trunk (with branches) for each coffee filter. Once the coffee filters are completely dry, apply some glue to the tree trunks and adhere them to the coffee filters. Let the glue dry completely.
Hang them up on display to add that extra special touch of autumn decor. They also look amazing taped to a glass window or door!
ABC Apple Tree
Autumn is the best time of year to go apple-picking, so it would just be silly if we failed to include an apple tree with our fall tree crafts. π This fun craft even doubles as an educational activity! Your little ones can create their very own apple tree, all while practicing their alphabet and letter recognition skills. It’s a win-win!
I also found this gem of an idea over on Malia’s @playdough2plato Instagram page. Although, we decided to switch it up a bit and create the tree trunk and branches by tracing my little nugget’s forearm and hand.
To create this activity you will need the following supplies: a sheet of white paper, a brown coloring utensil, red & green dot stickers, and a pen. Start by tracing your child’s forearm and hand on the piece of white paper. Color it all in with the brown coloring utensil (we used a colored pencil). Using the pen, write all of the letters of the alphabet around the branches of the tree. Next, write the corresponding letters onto the red and green dot stickers (one letter per sticker). Hand everything over to your kiddo and let the letter-matching commence! When all is said and done, you will have a pretty little apple tree to hang up.
Autumn Do-A-Dot Tree
We always love a good Do-A-Dot art activity, and this fall tree craft is so quick and easy to create! All you need is a sheet of white paper, a brown marker, and Do-A-Dot markers (in red, orange, and yellow).
Using the brown marker, draw the outline of a tree on the white paper. Let your kiddos decorate the tree with the fall-colored Do-A-Dot markers, until they are completely satisfied with their autumn creation!
This simple, yet colorful fall craft is perfect for independent art time. I love providing fun projects like this when I’m trying to get a household task accomplished. π And our little nugget loves the opportunity to let her creative juices run wild!
