MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!Β I hope you and your family are having a spectacular holiday! By now you’ve likely opened all of your gifts, enjoyed some breakfast, and are most likely cleaning up a mound of wrapping paper…or maybe you’ve started in on Christmas dinner preparations. Regardless, you could probably use a little kid-free time – especially if your little angels woke you up before dawn to start the festivities. π On the off-chance that your kiddos have already tired of playing with their new toys, and are now dangling from your leg as you attempt to make a delicious feast magically appear, I’ve got you covered. Pipe Cleaner Candy Canes to the rescue!
I don’t know about your little ones, but our daughter always seems to be bouncing from one thing to another on Christmas day. Perhaps it’s because she spends the early morning opening gift after gift at rapid speed. The unwrapping goes so fast that she just continues at that pace the remainder of the day. Needless to say, by the time I head into the kitchen to start prepping our big afternoon meal, she’s already tired of doing everything else and just wants to be at my feet. That’s when it’s nice to have a simple, yet engaging, activity at your fingertips…like this candy cane craft! And all you need are pipe cleaners and beads!
Pipe Cleaner Candy Canes
Supplies:
- Red or White Pipe Cleaners
- Red and White Beads
- Ribbon (optional)
Instructions:
- Cut your pipe cleaner down to the approximate size that you want your candy cane to be.
- Secure one end of your pipe cleaner by tying it in a knot and cutting off any excess.
- Thread the red and white beads onto the pipe cleaner in whatever pattern you so desire.
- When you reach the other end of the pipe cleaner, you will want to secure it by folding the end back upon itself and threading it back through your last bead or two.
- If you want to hang your candy cane from a Christmas tree, feel free to tie a piece of ribbon through the top of the candy cane.
These Pipe Cleaner Candy Canes are an excellent Christmas craft for several different reasons. (1) They keep your kiddos occupied for a good chunk of time. (2) They provide ample pattern-making practice. (3) They turn into beautiful, handmade ornaments with the quick addition of some ribbon!Β I actually have a beaded pipe cleaner candy cane ornament hanging on our Christmas tree, that I crafted back in elementary school. And now one of our little nugget’s candy cane creations hangs right beside it!
So, I’m just going to leave this helpful little candy cane craft right here, and let you get back to your holiday celebrations!
