Did you enjoy completing color-by-number activity sheets when you were little? I absolutely loved them as a child, though coloring, in general, was always one of my favorite things to do. In fact, I still enjoy coloring to this day. And I count myself lucky that I now have the best little coloring partner! When I noticed our daughter’s obsession with the color-by-number activities in her Pre-K workbook, I decided to craft an Easter-themed color-by-number activity of my very own. So…without further ado…our Giant Color-by-Number Easter Eggs!
Our little nugget jumped for joy when she walked into our dining room and noticed these giant Easter eggs just begging to be covered with bright, spring colors. The fact that they were color-by-number was the icing on the cake! π This simple artistic activity also provides plenty of benefits for little ones – i.e. number recognition, color recognition, and pattern recognition. You can even switch things up and do color-by-letter, color-by-shape, etc. Let your creativity run wild!
Giant Color-by-Number Easter Eggs
Supplies:
- Large Sheet of White Craft Paper
- Black Marker
- Pen/Pencil
- Crayons/Markers/Colored Pencils
Instructions:
- Using a black marker, draw the outline of a giant Easter egg (or two) on the large sheet of white craft paper. Now draw the outlines of various designs on your Easter egg(s).
- Once you’re satisfied with the overall design of your Easter egg(s), it’s time to add some numbers – to designate which areas of the egg(s) should be colored certain hues. This can be done using a marker, a pen…or even a pencil (if you want to be able to erase all of the numbers post-coloring).
- Next, you need to create a little color key, so that your kiddos can immediately see what color goes with each number.
- And that’s it! Easy peasy! We initially taped our coloring sheet to our dining room wall, but our textured walls made coloring a bit tricky, so we switched over to our dining room table.
- Have your kiddos grab their preferred coloring utensils, in the hues designated by the color key. And let the Easter egg coloring extravaganza begin!
Once the Easter eggs have been colored, go ahead and cut them out, and hang them up on display as a beautiful, hand-crafted Easter decoration!
This colorful and creative activity reminds me a lot of our Giant Painting & Coloring (2-in-1 Activity), that we fell head-over-heels for last summer. Giant coloring/painting sheets are simply the best!
HAPPY EASTER!
