This week, we are focusing on fun ways to stay cool during the summer. We shared four Summertime Frozen Fun activities on Tuesday. And today, we wanted to show you how to make your very own DIY Pool Noodle Sprinkler!
I discovered this brilliant idea over on Julia’s @weneedmoreglitter Instagram feed. In fact, Julia shared quite a few incredible pool noodle hacks just a few short months ago – including pool noodle bubble blowers, pool noodle card holders, and a pool noodle sight word activity. So, make sure to follow the link over to her page, to check out all of her other fabulous ideas!
Needless to say, you should definitely stock up on pool noodles during the summer months. They can be utilized in so many different ways. And if you’re wondering where you can snag a few…the dollar stores usually have quite a hefty supply during the summer…and if you can’t find them there, Target usually has them (for roughly a dollar more).
DIY Pool Noodle Sprinkler
Supplies:
- Pool Noodle
- Small Round Pokey Object (i.e. screwdriver, ballpoint pen, etc.)
- Aluminum Foil
- Heavy Duty Tape (we used this Gorilla Tape)
- Garden Hose
- Outdoor Water Spigot
Instructions:
- Start by poking holes down one side of the pool noodle (making sure not to poke all the way through to the other side). We made our initial holes with a screwdriver, and then jiggled the end of a ball point pen into each hole…to widen the holes a bit more.
- Once the sprinkler holes are complete, decide which end of the pool noodle will be capped off, and which end will attach to the garden hose. Tear off a sheet of aluminum foil, and crinkle it into a small ball. Stick the ball of tinfoil into the central hole of the pool noodle, on the end that you are going to cap. Press it in until it becomes flush with the end of the pool noodle. Adding the ball of tinfoil will help keep that end of the pool noodle from blowing out once the water is turned on.
- Grab your heavy duty tape, and tape over the end of the pool noodle (the end containing the ball of aluminum foil). Tape over the hole a few times, and then run a ring of tape around the outside of the pool noodle, to secure all of the tape ends in place.
- Take your new pool noodle sprinkler outside, and stick the end of a garden hose into the center hole of the (open) end of the pool noodle – until the metal mouth of the hose is completely inside the noodle.
- Attach the other end of the hose to an outdoor water spigot, and when you’re ready…turn the water on.
- Let the sprinkler fun begin! You can lay the pool noodle sprinkler flat on the ground, or prop it up between two chairs/posts/trees, etc. Your kiddos can even pick it up and carry it around…or jump on it! π
This is one genius (and super simple) pool noodle hack! And there are still plenty of hot days left in the summer season to try one out. If your kiddos have already returned to school, go ahead and surprise them with some sprinkler fun during the weekend! Who says that summer has to end when school starts?
