It’s officially fall and I’m super excited! Autumn is my absolute favorite season – it’s not too hot and not too cold, and the colorful leaves are simply amazing! I’m ready to sip on a delectable pumpkin spice latte and start making some fun fall crafts with my little nugget. And to ring in the start of the new season, we’ve been reading some wonderful autumn books!

Fall to me is cozy sweaters, warm beverages, brisk walks, jumping in leaf piles, and visiting pumpkin patches. This year, I’m excited to add a new autumn adventure…a trip to an apple orchard! We can’t wait to pick our very own apples, all while munching on some delicious apple cider donuts. And we’ve got a great applesauce recipe to try out…straight from the pages of our Apple Farmer Annie book!

- When fall arrives, Annie starts filling baskets upon baskets with apples from her orchard. She uses some apples to make delicious apple cider, some to make smooth applesauce, and some to bake muffins, cakes, and pies. She loads all of her apple goodies (along with her most beautiful apples) into her truck and heads to the farmers’ market, where she sells everything! This cute book also includes recipes for applesauce, apple muffins, and applesauce cake.

- The little yellow leaf was the last one clinging to the great oak tree. He just wasn’t ready to let go yet. So, he held on as the wind swirled, as the pumpkins grew larger in size, as the birds flew south for the winter. He was still not ready when the first snow flurries filled the sky. He held on tight, braving the cold, all alone…until he looked up and noticed another little leaf clinging to the tree. And together they decided it was time to let go.

Fletcher and the Falling Leaves by Julia Rawlinson
- Fletcher the fox started to worry when the leaves on his favorite tree started to change color. When the wind blew the tree’s very first leaf to the ground, Fletcher rushed to save it. He tied it gently back on the tree. But the next day, when Fletcher emerged from his den, the wind was howling and the rest of the tree’s leaves were swirling through the air. Fletcher was heartbroken. But when he woke the next morning, he discovered the most magical sight…his tree was covered in thousands of shining and shimmering icicles!

- We just can’t get enough of this silly old lady. 🙂 Her autumn culinary adventure includes leaves, clothing, a giant pumpkin, a broomstick, and some hay. When the hay causes her to sneeze up everything she’s swallowed…out pops a fantastic fall scarecrow!
Leaves by David Ezra Stein
- It was Bear’s first year and he didn’t know what to do when all of the leaves started falling from the trees. He was concerned. He tried putting them back on the trees, but it just didn’t look right. So, he gathered them all up and used them to block the entrance to his cave, while he slept inside through the winter. When he emerged in the spring, it was like the budding trees were welcoming him back…so he welcomed them back too!

We’ve been loving all of these amazing autumn stories, but our little nugget’s absolute favorites are Fletcher and the Falling Leaves and Apples for Little Fox!
