“His eyes–how they twinkled! His body so tiny! His hand clasped a trinket so golden and shiny! He was dressed in all green, from his head to his toes, and he looked like a cobbler wearing fairy-sized clothes.”
– The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day
Books are such wondrous things! They are full of adventure and information…they inspire…they spark curiosity…they breed imagination! I’ve loved reading books for as long as I can remember, and I wholeheartedly believe that a love for reading is one of the best gifts that we can give to our children. We read with our little nugget every single day! And lately, we’ve been having the best time reading some superb St. Patrick’s Day books!
We’ve learned so much from our St. Patrick’s Day stories…we’ve learned about lucky four-leaf clovers…and what can happen if you swallow a clover. We’ve learned all about leprechauns…their love for wearing green, and their penchant for collecting all things shiny and gold. We’ve read many a tale about how clever and quick leprechauns can be, and just how much they love a good trick.
On the first day of March, our daughter loudly exclaimed, “The leprechauns are coming!” She explained how they were going to run through our house, turn all of our water green, and ultimately make a giant mess. When I asked who she thought might clean up the huge mess that the leprechauns left behind, her response was immediate…”The Cat in the Hat!” Well obviously, the Cat in the Hat would come riding in on his handy-dandy clean-up machine…and everything would be put back in its place again. π Books really are such wondrous things!
