Learning to write the ABC’s is a big accomplishment during the preschool years! Each morning that we drop our little nugget off at preschool, she is asked to “sign in” by writing her name on a dry erase name tag. We are more than happy to help her write the letters each day, but we also wanted to encourage her to do it all by herself. Through trial-and-error, I discovered that the most effective writing technique (for us, anyway) was outlining the letters in her name, using dotted lines. She would then trace over them, connecting the dots in each letter. After completing this task just a handful of times, she started signing herself in at school…with a very proud and triumphant look on her face!Β At that point, she became super enthusiastic about learning to write the rest of the letters in the alphabet. While I was happy to continue dotting the outline of every letter onto a piece of paper…I was over-the-moon excited when we discovered these Dry Erase Activity Books for Preschoolers! They utilize the very same method to promote writing skills…AND…they are chock-full of other fun and engaging activities!
Our daughter received this trio of Highlights dry erase activity books for Christmas, and she absolutely loves them! Each book contains over 50 pages of activities and learning opportunities. Your kiddos are sure to love the ever-popular Hidden Pictures puzzles, but they will also enjoy the various drawing tutorials, letter searches, connect-the-dot pictures, mazes, and more!
Each of these activity books promote growth and learning in a variety of areas. As your kiddos work through each book, they will acquire, utilize, and perfect the following skills:
- Observation
- Letter Recognition
- Letter Writing
- Reading
- Pattern Differentiation
- Number Recognition
- Counting
- Shape Recognition
- Color Recognition
- Hand-Eye Coordination
- Creativity/Imagination
Our little nugget’s favorite activity is most certainly the Hidden Pictures puzzles! And I happen to love the added challenge of actually writing the words for each hidden object. Once a word is complete, we state each letter in the word, read the word aloud, and then hunt for the object in the adjacent picture! This single activity promotes letter recognition, letter writing, reading, and observational skills! I just love multi-dimensional learning activities! Don’t you?
The absolute best thing about these books? Once your kiddos have happily marked them all up, you can simply erase everything, and start all over! A reusable activity book? YES!!! Just make sure to use a dry erase marker. π
So by now, I’m guessing you might want to snag a few of these magical books for your own preschooler! To make things easier, here are a few links to some great dry erase activity books, that I found on Amazon:
