When I was growing up, my mom always made Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies during the holidays. You know the ones…the soft peanut butter cookies with a Hershey’s kiss stuck right in the middle. They have always been one of my favorite holiday cookies (though you can certainly enjoy them year-round). Come to think of it, these cookies are most likely responsible for my everlasting peanut butter and chocolate addiction. π
As an adult, I’ve continued making these delectable cookies every holiday season. But in recent years, I’ve found that I only enjoy eating them when they are fresh out of the oven…when the warmth of the cookie melts the chocolate kiss. After the cookies have cooled and the chocolate hardens again, I find them less appealing (though still delicious). I would prefer that the chocolate center stay nice and soft. And then my blossom cookie prayers were answered…when I discovered this amazing recipe for Nutella Peanut Butter Thumbprint Cookies,Β over on If You Give a Blonde a Kitchen.
Haley single-handedly solved my blossom cookie dilemma. I was beyond tired of having hard chocolate kisses in the center of my soft peanut butter cookies. Nutella to the rescue! You seriously can’t go wrong with the creamy hazelnut spread! The chocolate centers of these cookies never harden…even after a few days stored in a container. I’d call that a success! I can’t believe I never thought of this simple trick – we always have a container of Nutella in the cupboard.

Peanut Butter & Nutella Blossom Cookies
*This recipe belongs to Haley, at If You Give a Blonde a Kitchen, and is by no means my own personal recipe.*
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter (at room temperature)
- 1/2 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
- 1-3/4 Cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tsp. Baking Soda
- 1/4 tsp. Salt
- 1 Cup Nutella
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375Β° F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the butter, peanut butter, sugar, and brown sugar. Beat on medium-high for a few minutes (scraping the sides as necessary) until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract. Beat until thoroughly combined.
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- With the stand mixer on low, gradually add the flour mixture and beat until just combined (scraping the sides as necessary).
- Scoop up approximately one tablespoon of dough and roll it into a ball. Place the dough ball on the parchment-lined cookie sheet. Repeat…placing the dough balls at least 1-1/2 inches apart on the cookie sheet, to allow the cookies to spread.
- Bake for approximately 10-12 minutes, or until the bottoms are golden.
- Remove from the oven and make an indentation in the center of the cookies, using the back of a spoon (we used the back of a round teaspoon-sized measuring spoon). FYI – the cookies will crack when you press down on the centers, so don’t panic. π
- Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Now it’s time to fill the centers with Nutella! You can spoon the Nutella into the center of each cookie, or you can spoon the Nutella into a cake decorating bag (fitted with a round tip) and pipe the delicious hazelnut mixture into the middle of the cookies. In my opinion, piping the Nutella is so much easier…and prettier to boot!
- Enjoy these delicious little morsels of peanut butter and chocolatey goodness! They pair perfectly with a nice cold glass of milk.
This recipe yields approximately 30 cookies. Cookies can be stored in an airtight container for several days.
I just love baking goodies during the holidays. These Peanut Butter & Nutella Blossom Cookies are not only super quick and easy to make…they are incredibly tasty too! Chocolate and peanut butter lovers rejoice. π
